Project Management Strategies is the practitioner course that picks up where introductory project management training ends. Built for experienced project managers, the two-day intensive covers the strategic and political dimensions of project leadership — the work that distinguishes project managers from project administrators.

We focus on the situations where the methodology runs out and judgement takes over: managing senior stakeholders with conflicting agendas, recovering troubled projects, leading without authority across matrix organisations, and the strategic choices about scope, sequencing and acceleration that determine whether a programme delivers strategic value or just tactical outputs.

Experienced project managers (typically 3+ years), programme managers, senior PMO professionals and project leads with multi-million-pound or multi-year accountabilities. Particularly useful for managers being considered for programme-level promotion, or for those mid-flight on a high-stakes project where the standard playbook has stopped delivering.

Strategic stakeholder management
Mapping power, interest and posture across senior stakeholders, the influence sequencing that builds coalitions, managing executive sponsors who don't agree with each other, and the difficult-conversation playbooks for the senior stakeholders who become project problems.
Risk, recovery and the troubled project
Advanced risk techniques — scenario modelling, Monte Carlo, schedule risk analysis — and the project-recovery playbook for projects that have already lost confidence: the diagnostic, the reset, the stakeholder reconstruction and the path back to credibility (or honest termination).
Leading without authority and the strategic project
Matrix-management techniques, the soft-power tools available to project managers without line authority, and the strategic choices — scope adjustment, acceleration, descoping, MVP definition — that determine whether a programme delivers what the strategy actually needed.
