Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) is the structured methodology developed by AIAG for new product introduction in automotive, aerospace, defence and increasingly medical-device sectors. This two-day course covers the full five-phase methodology, the PPAP submission requirements, and the practical engineering judgement that turns APQP from a compliance exercise into a genuinely useful planning discipline.
Course overview.
We work through the methodology with real industry case studies, including a worked APQP project across the two days that takes a representative new product from voice-of-the-customer through to production approval. By the end you'll be able to lead an APQP project, navigate the deliverable list, and produce a PPAP submission that will land cleanly with a customer reviewer.
Who it's for.
Quality engineers, programme managers, NPI engineers and supplier-quality professionals working in automotive, aerospace, defence or regulated manufacturing. Essential for anyone whose customer requires APQP/PPAP submissions or whose organisation is preparing for IATF 16949 certification.
What you'll learn.
Phases 1 and 2 — Plan, Define and Product Design
Voice of the customer, design goals, reliability and quality goals, preliminary BOM and process flow. The design-stage deliverables that determine whether the rest of the APQP cycle runs cleanly or hits compounding rework downstream.
Phases 3 and 4 — Process Design and Validation
Process flow, process FMEA, control plan, pre-launch control plan, measurement system analysis (MSA) and the validation activities that gate the move to production. The hardest-fought deliverables and the ones customer auditors look at most closely.
Phase 5, PPAP and the customer submission
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) — the eighteen submission elements, the five submission levels, and the engineering judgement that determines what you submit and what you have on file. Plus the response patterns when a PPAP submission is rejected.
