Writing Technical Proposals

Writing Technical Proposals is the one-day intensive on the discipline of competitive bid writing — the craft that determines whether your organisation wins the work that matches your actual capability. Built for professionals who write tender responses, RFPs, ITTs and competitive proposals, and who suspect their hit rate isn't what their underlying capability deserves.

About the course

Course overview.

We work the structural patterns of winning proposals (the win theme, the discriminator narrative, the disciplined response architecture), the evaluator-side psychology (how proposals are actually read and scored), and the editorial craft that turns technically excellent capability into proposals that score against the criteria the evaluator is using. With real proposals as worked examples.

Who it's for.

Bid managers, technical proposal writers, consultants, professional services partners, public-sector procurement-facing professionals, and senior leaders accountable for winning competitive work. Particularly useful for organisations whose hit rate on competitive bids feels lower than their capability would justify.

What you'll learn.

01

Win themes and the proposal strategy

The strategic work that comes before any writing — what the evaluator actually wants, the win themes that differentiate you from the field, the discriminator architecture that runs through the proposal, the bid-no-bid discipline, and the response-strategy choices that determine whether the writing has anything to do.

02

Response architecture and the scoring rubric

How proposals are actually evaluated, the evaluator-side reading patterns, the response-architecture choices that compound (executive summary, capability statement, response matrix, case-study selection), and the discipline of writing for the rubric rather than writing the proposal you wished they'd asked for.

03

The editorial pass and the win/loss review

The editorial disciplines specific to competitive proposals — clarity under scoring pressure, the use of evidence and case study, the disciplined avoidance of the common own goals (over-claim, mismatched response, buried answers). Plus the win/loss review practice that turns every bid into capability uplift for the next one.
